Oily & Dry Skin

I get a lot of questions about what foundations are best for Oily/Dry/Combination skin types, its really simple, believe me! It just takes some time to understand why your skin is the way it is and how to deal with it prior to applying makeup.

Oily Skin
Oily skin is mainly caused by genetics, secondly, it is caused by over washing your face with facial washes. The more you wash your face, the more dehydrated it will become and the drier it becomes the more oil you will produce to make up for it and this cycle will repeat.

With oily skin, hydration is key. You can hydrate your skin using moisturisers, however, diet is the most important thing. Hydrating your body is the best and most effective way to cut down excess oils in your skin.

Cucumber, Avocado and Grapefruit. These all have high water and essential vitamins which will hydrate your body. Also, drinking a bottle of water in the morning and before bed in the evening will advantage you massively. Believe me, in no time you will see changes in your skin!

Dry Skin
The main triggers for dry skin is from the environment, followed by skin care which isn't suitable for your skin type. Dry skin is triggered a lot more during the winter, where your skin will feel tight and rough in certain areas. Over washing your face and using the wrong skincare will also break down all moisture and can even cause a deeper issue if you continue to use these products.

Its really important to use a facial soap which moisturises as it cleanses your skin, specially for dry skin. A quick tip, applying your moisturiser while your face is still damp will help lock in moisture and hydration.

So, avoid over washing, avoid using any old soap you have lying around in your shower and simply concentrate on maximum moisture.

Foundations for OILY SKIN

1. Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation

This foundation is amazing for oily skin, it lasts long, dries matte and has medium to full coverage. The ONLY con about this foundation is that it flashes back when you take photos with flash on camera and makes you look really washed out! but regardless, great for everyday use!

I love this foundation! it has a flawless matte finish. This foundation actually contains mushroom extract which tightens the skin and makes the pores less visible, but at the same time locking moisture in so your pores aren't blocked with no hydration! Its a sheer finish, so its great for everyday.

This foundation has made it to my top 3 because when this it says 24H hold it actually means 24H hold! it lasts all day without showing any signs of shine. Its a matte finish, medium coverage and has a great colour range. this foundation is also very buildable, just keep adding to it if you feel you need more coverage.

Foundations for DRY SKIN

Holy grailll! this i use on almost all of my clients (except the really oily ones) and i love the finish. Its  perfect if your going to have your photos taken because it doesn't flash back at all. It has a non-opaque, natural looking finish which seamlessly builds and blends into your skin. Medium coverage.

This foundation is so comfortable on your skin! very weightless and has a light reflecting formula, makes your skin look extremely healthy and blends seamlessly. A little goes a long way with this product, probably the most natural medium coverage foundation to date!

This is the foundation you want to use if you want to look glowy! it hydrates and evens skin tone, and has medium coverage. Very easy to use and lasts up to 16 hours. As it settles into your skin it will start to look even better and even more flawless which is why i love this foundation.

I hope this has given you some insight into how to treat your skin according to your skin type. Remember, its everything before any makeup that needs to be treated correctly. Healthy lifestyle, healthy skin, good makeup!
